Thank you to two cardinals, Scarletto and Bloom, for inspiring more stories. I rescued Bloom one stormy night when she was blown out of her nest. I made a shelter in the flowers with a bottomless cardboard box tucked under a card table to keep her out of the pouring rain and give her shade in the days to come. Bloom grew up in this new home. Her parents and a pair of Carolina wrens that also live in the garden watched over her and cared for her. I was amazed that the wrens were as interested in Bloom as her parents were - and that her parents allowed the wrens to perch on the box edge above her and even go down into the box to visit her. One day Bloom hopped to the top of the box and sat there for a full day, through the night and into the next morning before jumping off and flying around the back yard with her parents - barely able to keep above the ground as she ran and flew along. Bloom stayed in my garden where she met Scarletto last spring. They have happily made the garden their home and now have their own little ones. Every day, the garden is full of their songs. ~ Magnolia
